string(35) ligament finger joints replaced. Two The Sea Beast The cooling pipes at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant were totally formed from the best tempered steel. Before they were introduced, they were x-rayed, ultrasounded, and compel tried to be certain that they would never break, and in the wake of being welded into place, the welds were likewise x-rayed and tried. The radioactive steam from the center left its warmth in the funnels, which filtered it off into a seawater cooling lake, where it was securely vented to the Pacific. We will compose a custom article test on The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove Chapter 2~3 or on the other hand any comparable theme just for you Request Now Be that as it may, Diablo had been based on a very quick calendar during the vitality alarm of the seventies. The welders worked twofold and triple movements, driven by avarice and cocaine, and the controllers who ran the X-beam machines were on a similar timetable. What's more, they missed one. Not a significant error. Only a minuscule break. Scarcely perceptible. A tiny stream of innocuous, low-level radiation floated out with the tide and floated over the mainland rack, dispersing as it went, until even the most delicate instruments would have missed it. However the break didnââ¬â¢t go absolutely undetected. In the profound channel off California, close to a lowered spring of gushing lava where the waters rushed to 700 degrees Fahrenheit and dark smokers regurgitated billows of mineral soup, an animal was awakened from a long sleep. Eyes the size of supper platters winked out the dregs and rest of years. It was intuition, sense, and memory: the Sea Beastââ¬â¢s cerebrum. It ate the remaining parts of an indented Russian atomic submarine: burly little mariners softened by the weight of the profundities and spiced with interesting radioactive marinade. Memory woke the brute, and like a kid attracted from under the spreads on a cold morning by the smell of bacon searing, it flicked its extraordinary tail, broke liberated from the sea depths, and started a moderate climb into the ebb and flow of scrumptious treats. A present that ran along the shore of Pine Cove. Mavis Mavis hurled back a dose of Bushmills to offer some relief from her dissatisfaction at not having the option to whack anybody with her slugger. She wasnââ¬â¢t extremely irate that Molly had chomped a client. All things considered, he was a vacationer and appraised over the mice in the dividers simply because he conveyed money. Possibly the way that something had really occurred in the Slug would acquire a little business. Individuals would come in to hear the story, and Mavis could extend, estimate, and perform most stories into in any event three beverages a tell. Business had been easing back in the course of the most recent few years. Individuals didnââ¬â¢t appear to need to bring their issues into a bar. Time was, on some random evening, youââ¬â¢d have three or four folks at the bar, pouring down brews as they spilled their guts, so loaded up with self-hatred that theyââ¬â¢d snap a vertebra to abstain from getting their own appearance in the large mirror behind the bar. On a given night, the stools would be loaded with individuals who cried and snarled and bitched throughout the night, delaying just long enough to stumble to the restroom or to forfeit a quarter to the jukeboxââ¬â¢s broad self indulgence determination. Trouble sold a great deal of liquor, and it had been hard to come by these most recent couple of years. Mavis accused the blasting economy, Val Riordan, and vegetables in the eating routine for the misery deficiency, and she battled the guileful intruders by running two-for-one glad hours with greasy meat snacks (T he general purpose of party time was to cleanse satisfaction, wasnââ¬â¢t it?), yet the entirety of her endeavors just served to slice her benefits down the middle. On the off chance that Pine Cove could no longer create trouble, she would import a few, so she promoted for a Blues artist. The old Black man wore shades, a calfskin fedora, a worn out dark fleece suit that was unreasonably substantial for the climate, red suspenders over a Hawaiian shirt that wore topless hula young ladies, and creaky dark on-white wing tips. He set his guitar case on the bar and climbed onto a stool. Mavis peered toward him dubiously and lit a Tarryton 100. Sheââ¬â¢d been instructed as a young lady not to confide in Black individuals. ââ¬Å"Name your poison,â⬠she said. He removed his fedora, uncovering a sparkling earthy colored hair sparseness that shone like cleaned pecan. ââ¬Å"You gots some wine?â⬠ââ¬Å"Cheap-poop red or modest crap white?â⬠Mavis positioned a hip, apparatuses and hardware clicked. ââ¬Å"Them modest poop young men done extended. Used to be jusââ¬â¢ one flavor.â⬠ââ¬Å"Red or white?â⬠ââ¬Å"Whatever best, sweetness.â⬠Mavis pummeled a tumbler onto the bar and filled it with yellow fluid from a frosty container in the well. ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢ll be three bucks.â⬠The Black man connected â⬠thick sharp nails skating the bar surface, long fingers waving like limbs, looking, the hand like an ocean animal trapped in a tidal wash â⬠and missed the glass by four inches. Mavis drove the glass into his hand. ââ¬Å"You blind?â⬠ââ¬Å"No, it be dim in here.â⬠ââ¬Å"Take off your shades, idjit.â⬠ââ¬Å"I canââ¬â¢t do that, maââ¬â¢am. Shades go with the trade.â⬠ââ¬Å"What exchange? Donââ¬â¢t you attempt to sell pencils in here. I donââ¬â¢t endure beggars.â⬠ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m a Bluesman, maââ¬â¢am. I hear yaââ¬â¢ll lookin for one.â⬠Mavis took a gander at the guitar case on the bar, at the Black man in conceals, at the long fingernails of his correct hand, the short nails and bumpy dark calluses on the fingertips of his left, and she stated, ââ¬Å"I ought to have speculated. Do you have any experience?â⬠He giggled, a snicker that began where it counts and shook his shoulders in transit up and chugged out of his throat like a steam motor leaving a passage. ââ¬Å"Sweetness, I got me more experience than a busload oââ¬â¢ hos. Ainââ¬â¢t no residue settled a day on Catfish Jefferson since God done previously dropped him on this large olââ¬â¢ ball oââ¬â¢ dust. Thatââ¬â¢s me, call me Catfish.â⬠He shook hands like a sissy, Mavis thought, simply let her have the tips of his fingers. She used to do that before she had her ligament finger joints supplanted. You read The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove Chapter 2~3 in classification Article models She didnââ¬â¢t need any joint old Blues vocalist. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m going to require somebody through Christmas. Would you be able to remain that long or would your residue settle?â⬠ââ¬Å"I ââ¬Ëspose I could hinder a piece. Too cold to even think about going back East.â⬠He checked out the bar, attempting to take in the dinge and smoke through his dim glasses, at that point turned around to her. ââ¬Å"Yeah, I may have the option to clear my calendar ifâ⬠â⬠and here he smiled and Mavis could see a gold tooth there with a melodic note cut in it â⬠ââ¬Å"if the cash is right,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢ll get food and lodging and a level of the bar. You bring ââ¬â¢em in, youââ¬â¢ll make money.â⬠He considered, scratched his cheek where white stubble seemed like a toothbrush against sandpaper, and stated, ââ¬Å"No, pleasantness, you bring ââ¬â¢em in. When they hear Catfish play, they return. Presently what rate did you have in mind?â⬠Mavis stroked her jaw hair, pulled it directly to its full three inches. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll need to hear you play.â⬠Catfish gestured. ââ¬Å"I can play.â⬠He flipped the locks on his guitar case and pulled out a sparkling National steel body guitar. From his pocket he pulled a cutoff bottleneck and with a curve it fell onto the little finger of his left hand. He played a harmony to test tune, pulled the bottleneck from the fifth to the ninth and moved it there, high and howling. Mavis could smell something like buildup, greenery possibly, an adjustment in moistness. She sniffed and glanced around. She hadnââ¬â¢t had the option to smell anything for a long time. Catfish smiled. ââ¬Å"The Delta,â⬠he said. He propelled into a twelve-bar Blues, playing the bass line with his thumb, screeching the high notes with the slide, shaking to and fro on the bar stool, the light of the neon Coors sign behind the bar playing hues in the impression of shades and his uncovered head. The daytime regulars gazed upward from their beverages, quit lying for a second, and Slick McCall missed a straight-in eight-ball shot on the quarter table, which he never did. What's more, Catfish sang, beginning high and unpleasant, going low and lumpy. ââ¬Å"Theyââ¬â¢s a mean olââ¬â¢ lady run a bar out on the Coast. Iââ¬â¢m letting you know, theyââ¬â¢s a mean olââ¬â¢ lady run a bar out on the Coast. In any case, when she gets you under the spreads, That olââ¬â¢ lady turn your buttered bread to toast.â⬠And afterward he halted. ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re hired,â⬠Mavis said. She pulled the container of white modest poo out of the well and sloshed some into Catfishââ¬â¢s glass. ââ¬Å"On the house.â⬠Simply then the entryway opened and an impact of daylight slice through the dinge and smoke and leftover Blues and Vance McNally, the EMT, strolled in and set his radio on the bar. ââ¬Å"Guess what?â⬠he said to everybody and nobody specifically. ââ¬Å"That traveler lady hung herself.â⬠A low murmur went through the regulars. Catfish put his guitar for its situation and got his wine. ââ¬Å"Shoââ¬â¢ ââ¬â¢nuff a miserable day startin right off the bat in this little town. Shoââ¬â¢ ââ¬â¢nuff.â⬠ââ¬Å"Shoââ¬â¢ ââ¬â¢nuff,â⬠said Mavis with a chuckle like a tempered steel hyena. Valerie Riordan Gloom has a death pace of fifteen percent. Blog Archive Georgetown McDonough Essay Analysis, 20162017
Blog Archive Georgetown McDonough Essay Analysis, 2016â"2017 *Please note: You are viewing an essay analysis from the 2016-2017 admissions cycle. Click here to view our collection of essay analyses for the current admissions season. Some applicants may be happy to learn that Georgetown Universityâs McDonough School of Business has dropped its rather intimidating âWhy you?â essay prompt that we imagine gave some candidates trouble last application season. However, that relief may be short-lived when they learn that the school has added a video essay component, not to mention that the scope of the schoolâs first essay question is almost as broad as last yearâs. Still, we appreciate the (relative) freedom that McDonough offers candidates to really share who they are beyond the statistics and other facts presented in the rest of their application and encourage you to embrace this opportunity to stand out to the admissions committee. We offer our ideas and advice for how to accomplish thisâ"and to respond to the schoolâs optional essaysâ"in our analysis that follows. We want to hear your story. When responding to our required essays, be authentic and take time to reflect on your goals and past experiences. Craft a response that explains how these experiences led you to pursue an MBA. Essay One: We would like to learn more about you. Please answer the following essay question in 500 words or less: What matters to you? Please share an experience from your past that illustrates why this matters to you and how it will enable you to contribute during your MBA Program (note: this does not necessarily need to be related to your professional goals). We take for granted that most people who choose to pursue an MBA have big goals for themselves on the career front, but we also assume that such ambitious, dedicated, and focused individuals have passions that drive and inspire them outside the workplace as well. McDonough obviously does, too, and is offering candidates this prompt as a way to share this aspect of their personality, whether it is rooted in their personal life or tied directly to their career. Start brainstorming for this essay by asking yourself the schoolâs core question here: What does matter most to you? This might sound obvious, of course, but we have seen many applicants get flustered by the question, believing that an actual ârightâ answer exists that they must identify to satisfy the admissions committee. As a result, they do not take the time to truly consider what their most sincere response would be. Start by really contemplating this question in depth and identifying what you believe are the most sig nificant moments and achievements in your life. Then, explore the psychological and philosophical motivations both behind and resulting from these moments. You will likely begin to see some kind of theme or commonality emerge. This could be the crux of your essay. You need to accomplish three things in this essay in not a lot of space: identify what is important (e.g., a belief, issue, place, person, cause, activity), support this claim with a meaningful example, and explain how it equips you to be a valuable member of the McDonough community either inside or outside the classroom. So, once you have identified your main theme, choose which of the incidents you pinpointed during your brainstorming session best illustrates or substantiates that theme. Your presentation of this story must intrinsically convey the reason your selected topic is so significant in your life. Avoid explicitly declaring, âThe reason this matters most to me isâ¦â and instead ensure that your description of your actions, motivations, feelings, and thoughts impart that message more organically. Do not overlook that the school also asks you to elucidate how this aspect of your character has prepared you to add value in some way to the McDonough MBA experience. To effectively address this element of the essay prompt, you must develop a thorough understanding of the program and communityâ"well beyond what you can readily find on the schoolâs Web site. Connect with students and alumni, visit the campus if you can, read through blogs and news stories, and evaluate the schoolâs special events, offerings, and resources until you find a related opportunity or avenue that speaks to you and ignites your enthusiasm. The authenticity inherent in this portion of your submission will ensure that your essay not only has a stronger impact but is also easier to write. Video Essay: We ask that you prepare a one-minute video, upload it to an accessible website (such as Youtube, Vimeo, Youku, or Tudou), and submit the direct video URL into your online application. Please introduce yourself to your future Georgetown MBA cohort. Use this video as an opportunity to bring life to your application. For more instructions, view our Video Essay Guide. McDonoughâs new video essay is yet another opportunity for you to offer the school a glimpse into your character and personality. As the prompt says, this is a chance to âbring life to your application,â so your focus should be on ensuring that it as authentic and natural as possible. This is not a job interview, and the school specifically states that you should consider your future cohortâ"your fellow studentsâ"as your intended audience, which certainly implies that a less rigid and traditionally âprofessionalâ demeanor is okay, though we of course caution you to always be appropriate and inoffensive. Do not use the video as an opportunity to pitch your candidacy or to pander to the school. This is not the time to detail your career goals or express your admiration for the program. You have only one minute in which to make an impression, and even without knowing you personally, we are confident in our belief that you have more to your character than can be conveyed in a mere 60 secondsâ"so do not waste any of them! Given that this is a video, you will obviously need to think beyond what you will say and consider the clothing you will wear, the setting or background of your video, your tone of voice, your language style, whether you will include music, and a host of other details. Brainstorm ways of nonverbally communicating some of your strongest attributes and key aspects of your life to help permeate your submission with as much information as possible. For example, if you are an avid biker, consider using a GoPro or similar camera to film your video while you are actively riding. If you are a dedicated guitar player, perhaps strum your guitar as you speak (or, if you are especially confident, you could even sing about yourself!). Think about what makes you who you are today, decide what you most want to share with your future classmates, and then let your creativity flow. On a practical note, be sure to speak clearly in your video. You naturally do not want any part of your message to be lost or misunderstood, and the admissions committee may view your communication skills and style as indicators of how you might interact with your classmates and/or speak in the classroom. Spend some time practicing in front of a mirror or a friend, but do not overrehearse. You still want to come across as genuine and natural. Optional Essay One: If you are not currently employed full-time, use this essay to provide information about your current activities. (250 words or fewer) With this question, McDonough wants to know that you are actively engaged in your lifeâ"that you are a do-er who seeks out and seizes opportunities. You do not necessarily need to be working in the traditional sense to have an effective answer to this prompt (note that the school asks about your current âactivitiesâ). Perhaps you are taking classes to gain or improve skills in an area important to you professionally or personally. You could be performing community service in your area or volunteering for a cause that is meaningful to you. Maybe you are taking advantage of the break to enjoy extra personal time with friends or family members, possibly in anticipation of how busy you will be once you are enrolled in business school or because of a medical issue. Perhaps you are traveling to improve your foreign language skills in an immersive environment or simply to better familiarize yourself with other cultures and environments. You might be arranging informational interviews, job-shadowing opportunities, and/or unpaid internships, which could help later with recruiting and job selection. The bottom line is that you want to show the school that you are not merely sitting idle, waiting for things to come to you, and that you understand the kinds of opportunities that appeal to and/or are beneficial for you. This is a chance to demonstrate your interest in ongoing self-improvement, knowledge or experience collection, and/or giving back. Whatever your longer-term goals and plans may be, use this essay to convey how you anticipate your experience(s) to contribute to your character, enhance your skill set, and/or increase your understanding of yourself or othersâ"all of which are valuable in business school. Optional Essay Two: Please provide any information you would like to add to your application that you have not otherwise included. (500 words or fewer) We tend to believe that the best use of the optional essay is to explain confusing or problematic issues in your candidacy, and this prompt offers an opportunity to do just that. However, because McDonough does not stipulate that you can only discuss a problem area in this essay, you have some leeway to share anything you feel is that you think may be pivotal or particularly compelling. So, if you need to, this is your chance to address any questions an admissions officer might have about your profileâ"a poor grade or overall GPA, a low GMAT or GRE score, a gap in your work experience, etc. In our mbaMission Optional Essays Guide, we offer detailed advice on how best to take advantage of the optional essay, with multiple examples, to help you mitigate any problem areas in your application. However, because the question can be interpreted rather broadly, it does open the door for you to discuss anything that is not addressed elsewhere in your application and that you feel is truly critical for the admissions committee to know to be able to evaluate you fully and effectively. We caution you about simply trying to fill this space because you fear that not doing so would somehow count against you. Remember, by submitting an additional essay, you are asking the admissions committee to do extra work on your behalf, so you need to make sure that time is warranted. If you are using the essay to emphasize something that if omitted would render your application incomplete, take this opportunity to write a very brief narrative that reveals this key new aspect of your candidacy. Re-Applicant Essay: Required for re-applicants. How have you strengthened your candidacy since your last application? We are particularly interested in hearing about how you have grown professionally and personally. (500 words or fewer) Whether you have improved your academic record, received a promotion, begun a new and exciting project, increased your community involvement, or taken on some sort of personal challenge, the key to success with this essay is conveying a very deliberate path of achievement. McDonough wants to know that you have been actively striving to improve yourself and your profile, and that you have seized opportunities during the previous year to do so, because a McDonough MBA is vital to you. The responses to this essay question will vary greatly from one candidate to the next, because each personâs needs and experiences differ. We are more than happy to provide one-on-one assistance with this highly personal essay to ensure that your efforts over the past year are presented in the best light possible. Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Asd ) - 3918 Words
Once a child is born, the parents may ask questions such as what kind of child he or she will grow up to be. However, when the child is born with a disability, the line of questioning may change to how could this happen to my child or what do we do now? Receiving the news that oneââ¬â¢s child has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may shatter a parent as their child and familyââ¬â¢s life begins to change. These parents are now faced with many obstacles in trying to do what they feel will be best for their child. Now imagine having a child and you believe that he/she is not typically developing, but you never know what exactly is going on with them. This lack of diagnosis tends to occur within ASD when it comes to diagnosingâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Children with ASD appear to experience sensory problems, leading to high pain tolerance and auditory hypersensitivity. They also may present ââ¬Å"sensory seeking behaviors,â⬠where they will crash, squeeze , spin, or flap (Solomon Chung, 2012). Other than the symptom categories that may be checked off in the DSM-V, these children may also have food allergies, immune system dysregulation, sleep disturbances, and seizures. According to the CDCââ¬â¢s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network, ASDââ¬â¢s prevalence in 2010 was 14.7%, with about 1 in 68 children being identified with ASD (CDC, 2014). While ASD has been reported to occur within all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups, it is almost 5 times more common in boys (1 in 42) than among girls (1 in 189) (CDC, 2014). Autism can be detected at 18 months old or younger but by age 2, a diagnosis of ASD is considered to be very reliable. However, many children are not fortunate enough to receive an early-diagnosis or their correct final diagnosis until they are much older than 2 years old, which then delays them from receiving the help they need. Being a girl with autism ââ¬Å"I knew she had something all along but I couldnââ¬â¢t get a doctor to help.â⬠- Anonymous (seventhvoice, 2013) As the mother above explained, many believe that girls are falling below the ASD radar, unrecognized and undiagnosed. Media Representation Reflection Paper free essay sample
The representations of drug users in the shows ââ¬Å"Breaking Badâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s Always Sunny in Philadelphiaâ⬠show the stereotypes of the modern day drug users from two different genre perspectives. In ââ¬Å"Breaking Badâ⬠, the show uses a dramatic up-front approach to show the horrors of meth use. It portrays the meth addicted parents as horrible degenerates of society. All they are focused on are drugs and how to acquire their next fix. The main female character in the episode is a meth addicted mother that experiences a role conflict when she has to decide to either take care of her son or cater to her addiction. The episode shows a highly graphic portrayal of the insanity of addiction. As the couple fights, chooses drugs over their child, and eventually the woman kills her partner and steals his drugs. On the other side of the equation the episode portrays, Jesse, one of the shows main characters as a sympathetic figure. We will write a custom essay sample on Media Representation Reflection Paper or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He is a drug dealer that is getting a revenge on the two customers that robbed him of an ounce of methamphetamine. Upon entering the ram shackled house he stumbles upon a child living in horrible conditions. He feeds the child and takes care of him until the two meth addicted parents show up. Although he uses strong language with them and threatens them with a gun, I always felt like he was the ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠guy in the situations. That is because the episode shows his depth of character and his compassion towards the child. He is also caught up in a role conflict as he is supposed to be a badass drug dealer with no conscience but he also is a human being with morals. He ends up calling the cops and putting the child outside which I assume saves the child. We see him as the hero in the show. In ââ¬Å"Its Always Sunny in Philadelphiaâ⬠, the show uses a comedic slant to stereotype crack use and poverty in general. It portrays drug users as lazy, homeless people that are living off the government. Ignoring responsibility and getting high in the middle of the afternoon. It is a highly generalized depiction that exploits a serious issue for comedic value. Crackheads have almost become a comedic meme in society today. Their behavior is so off the wall and shocking that as a society as a whole we choose to deal with it with humor. Both of the shows portrayals of drug use represent that social construction of the drug addict in modern society. This depiction is based on the hardcore addicts living in rock bottom addiction. In my addiction I showed some of the characteristics shown in the shows and I know many people who also fell into this description. Although it does use the worst addicts to describe addiction in general, I feel like Breaking Bad does an honest job of showing the shocking disease of meth addiction. I feel like ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s Always Sunny in Philadelphiaâ⬠is more of a biased approach and really undermines the seriousness of the issue. It is a comedy show, however, and it delivers as a hilarious episode. The perception I had growing up and mainstream society still has of an addict is one that permeates throughout these shows. In my opinion drugs should be legalized and harm reduction should be the new frontier of the drug issue. The media, however, perpetuates fear in their portrayal of addiction using all genres and keeps the mainstream public in the dark about the real issues. It keeps the prohibition line of thinking as the prevailing solution for drug use and keeps the drug war going.
