I Need You, Body and Soul The poem I Sing the Body Electric, by Walt Whitman is one of the poems from the original 1855 edition of Leaves of Grass. In I Sing the Body Electric, Whitman explores the physical body in connection with the soul. In this poem Whitman establishes the links between the body and the soul by celebrating perfection of the male and female body and the importance the body castes upon the soul and bodies connecting with one another.
